The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the entrance examination for Engineering courses conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. The JEE examination consists of two different examinations namely JEE Main and the JEE Advanced.
The joint admission test takes the input for 24 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), 32 NITs (National Institute of Technology), 18 IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology) and 19 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes), spread across India and the admission is based on the rank a student obtains in JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations. Along with these institutions, Institutes like IISERs (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Research (RGIPT), and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) use the marks obtained by students in JEE Advance Examination for admission.
The JEE Main Examination has two papers, namely Paper I and Paper II. Students may either opt for Paper I or Paper II or both. Paper I is for admission to B.E. and B.Tech courses while Paper II is for admission to B.Arch and B. Plan courses. Both the papers are Computer-Based Tests except for the Drawing Test in Paper-II which is a Pen and Paper-based test.
The JEE Advance also has two papers, namely Paper I and Paper II. Students who clear JEE Main are eligible for sitting for both the papers and both these papers are compulsory for students who would like to seek admission in IITs along with RGIPT, IISER and IISc.
